Course Description:

Students explore the rich truths of justification and other significant topics by completing an exegetical and theological study of Paul’s epistle to the Romans in the Greek text. The course treats select historical, grammatical, structural, and lexical data that illumine the meaning of this important New Testament epistle. Students will be encouraged to put textual theory into living practice. The course assumes students’ ability to make grammatical and text-critical evaluations and to engage in Greek exegesis and Greek word studies.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Articulate the structure and argument of the epistle as a whole.
2. Develop a Biblical understanding of the salvation process.
3. Increase his/her Greek vocabulary and gain additional competence in grammatical analysis and translation.
4. Gain experience in doing exegesis from the Greek text in preparation for expository preaching and teaching.
5. Apply the message of Romans to life and ministry.

Note: This ITS course assumes students’ ability to make grammatical and text-critical evaluations, and to do Greek exegesis and Greek word studies.
